You Need a Knitting Retreat!...at John C Campbell Folk School

This looks like a baby sweater...but...it is actually a knitting laboratory

Such a small garment...yet it includes all the elements of an adult garment and is the perfect project for learning the finishing techniques that every knitter needs to know in order to achieve the finished look of refinement for a knitted garment.  I'm teaching a week-long class (Aug 7-12) at John C Campbell Folk School on garment techniques...set in sleeves, types of seaming (this sweater has three different types), button bands, calculating button holes, making buttonholes, short row shoulders, short row sleeve cap and sleeve, zipper installation, and more.

Learn how to properly set up a sleeve for seaming and the different seaming techniques necessary to achieve the perfectly smooth insertion of the sleeve cap.

Learn how to plan ahead on how to make seaming easier to line up, how to pin it, and how to properly seam.

Learn short row techniques, and apply them in sloping a shoulder and shaping a set-in sleeve cap (no seaming a sleeve into place!)--you can then just work the sleeve in the round from top to bottom!

How to calculate button holes, work buttonholes, sew on buttons, and sew in a zipper...you will do it all!

And now imagine learning all this at a historic setting that soothes your soul with natural beauty, great food, and comfortable lodging in the rural North Carolina hills...artisan crafting of all sorts, dancing, music, an experience of community...you will be renewed.  And it's all awaiting you at the John C Campbell Folk School.

Original Farmhouse where I stayed last time I taught at the Folk School.

I had a lovely attic bedroom.

Square and folk dancing at night…you don’t need to know how…everybody is there to learn! (I’m the guy on the left with the light bouncing off his bald head!)

Music in the evening and Morningsong in the morning.

Find out everything you need to know at www.folkschool.org

And then plan to stay the weekend and learn how to knit Argyle while making an Argyle Hat. That class runs from Aug 12-14. You will learn the classic technique of knitting Argyle flat, a seaming method that is flat, and the calculations needed to create Argyle diamonds using your stitch and row gauge so you can design for various yarn weights. And there will be a slide show of contemporary Argyle variations to fire your imagination.

You really need to have the John C Campbell Folk School Experience...and what better way than knitting the whole time!
I have spaces in both classes...check them out here (p. 85 and 86 of online catalogue).

I would love to spend the week with you at this unique place.
